How to get clients on LinkedIn

Clients come from LinkedIn when the right people have seen you say something useful, several times, before they ever need you. Then they message you.

The short answer

Write posts about the problems your clients have and how you think about them. Do it every week. When someone has that problem, you are the person they think of.

It is slower than sending messages and it works better. A cold message is deleted. A post someone saved three months ago gets you the call.

Write for the client, not for peers

The mistake most consultants and freelancers make is writing for other consultants and freelancers. The people who hire you do not care about your methods. They care about their problem.

So write about their problem. Why your bookkeeper keeps asking for receipts. What to do when a big client pays late. If a client would nod reading it, it is the right post.

Show your work

A post that says I help businesses grow gets nothing. A post that says here is what we did when a client’s biggest customer left, and what happened next gets messages.

You do not need to name the client. You need to be specific about the situation, the decision and the result.

Make it easy to reach you

Your headline should say what you do and for whom. Your About section should end with how to get in touch. That is all the selling the profile needs to do.

The posts do the rest. Most people who become clients will have read several before they message you, and none of those posts will have asked them to.

If you would rather not write it yourself. Scout writes a post about your clients’ problems, in your voice, every working day. You approve it. The people with those problems start to find you.
